Installation of JDisk is straight forward and quite simple.\r\n\r\nBefore you install JDisk you should know that it requires the Java Runtime to run. Unlike some of those other free tools companies provide that require you to register your product before it works or that you have to pay to unlock features, JDisk is ready to use as soon as it’s installed and it’s feature complete. \r\n JDiskReport is a free graphical disk space tool from. Fortunately for Windows server admins JDiskReport and WinDirStat are two such tools and better still they are both free.\r\n\r\n \r\n Using JDiskReport In this situation you need a graphical tool that can quickly analyze an entire disk drive or even multiple drives and show you how the server’s space is being utilized. Knowing the paths to a few folders that typically eat up space such as web logs isn’t enough when you need to free up space ‘now’. Low disk space or worse yet no disk space can have a negative impact on your server’s performance. You can install it on Windows and can click your way into the size pie, which you can’t do with the newer version.When your Windows server is low on space or runs out of space entirely you need to quickly identify where the disk space is being utilized and free up space. It’s worth noting that there is an older version of JDiskReport that you can download that’s a little more feature-rich. This way, finding the files you want to remove is easy, though knowing how to remove junk files from your Windows 10 PC isn't. The downside here is that you can’t see the individual files within each folder without navigating down into the folder itself, though this is far from the biggest problem. Each segment of the chart is broken up into a different color, so it’s pretty easy to get an idea of what exactly is and isn’t taking up how much space on your computer. ![]() In some ways, this is more intuitive to grasp when you first see it. Instead of the tree mapping that we see with WinDirStat, JDiskReport chooses to display the information about your drive or directory as a pie chart. Where JDiskReport differs most from WinDirStat is in its layout. Like WinDirStat you can move directly to that file in your file explorer or open a command prompt, but WizTree also includes a defragging and check fragmentation option, which is a nice addition.Īs for the program itself, JDiskReport is a relatively quick disk analyzer, roughly on par with how WinDirStat performs. There are a lot of options here when you right-click. You can also click on any of them to navigate right to the corresponding folder quickly. The breaking down of disk space into various colors and sizes, known as a treemap, that WinDirStat does is present as well. The actual layout one you’ve analyzed your disk or disks is pretty similar to WinDirStat as well. You have to select a drive for the program to scan, just like you have to do with WinDirStat, though, unlike WinDirStat, WizTree opts to let you select a drive at the top of your screen instead of prompting you. WizTree has a relatively clean layout to it, and it’s pretty easy to understand how it works. WizTree is a disk space analyzer that lets you quickly and easily get a better understanding of what exactly is taking up space on your computer.
